Edo 2020: Okowa’s Committee Inaugurated, Hit The Ground Running

Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Mr Sunday Dare, Wednesday, set the tone for upcoming National Sports Festival in Benin City, Edo State, with a charge to the committee raised to fine tune the logistics for the showpiece, to deliver on it’s mandate.

Speaking at the committee’s inauguration vide the video conference platform, he told the members that the assignment was a call to duty which should be executed in the spirit of urgency to meet the 30 days time frame of delivery.

“We must follow the regime of what obtains globally. This is a call to duty which must be handled with all the seriousness it deserves.

I charge you to carry out this task within the stipulated period of 30 days in which you are expected to submit your report”, the minister emphasised.
The federal government had at the National Council of Sports Development meeting, last week set up this committee to fine tune patchy areas in the suspended 20th sports feast that would have held in Benin between March and April but suffered the fate of being called off because of the Corona Virus pandemic.

The committee is made up of sports chiefs from the six geo-political zones and some key agencies of government.
It is headed by Chief Tonobok Okowa, the Executive Chairman, Delta State Sports Commission.

The minister also reeled out the committee’s terms of reference including interfacing with all stakeholders and relevant agencies to determine what he described as “the state of Edo to host the festival”, ascertain the level of health of infrastructure, prepare code of operations for athletes and officials as well as propose a date for the feast.

In his response, Chief Okowa expressed appreciation for the privilege to serve the country at this level
